INTERVIEW ON SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY: THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN CITIES

During the interview on Zoom organized
by the Sustainability Student Community,

Prof. Dr. Nilüfer Negiz, Head of the
Department of Political Science and
Public Administration at Süleyman

Demirel University, made an informative
presentation on “Urban Development in
the Context of Gender in Türkiye and the
Visibility of Women in the City: A SEGE
Based Field Research” within the scope of

TUBITAK 1001 - Scientific and
Technological Research Projects Funding
Program.

The study, which was conducted in
Antalya, Yalova, Zonguldak, Afyon,
Gaziantep, Malatya, Çankırı, Şanlıurfa and
Kars, which are at different development

levels in Türkiye, obtained data about
women who are/are not visible in the
cities determined by the interview and

survey technique, shared how it is
reflected on women's visibility in urban
public space, how and to what extent it is
still effective in today's cities. In addition,
the suggestions to ensure further equal

participation in political, economic and
social contexts as a way to increase the
women's visibility in cities were shared.
