POLICY ON REDUCING PLASTIC WASTE
Plastic products are used in a wide variety of products worldwide, as well as
being versatile due to their lightness, low cost, ease of production and coloring,
resistance to corrosion and adverse conditions. The amount of products
produced is also increasing based on the ever-increasing population, rapid
urbanization and industrial advances. Due to the increase in the amount of
consumption, it is, therefore, inevitable that the plastic wastes generated will
become one of the main inorganic solid waste fractions in our solid waste
generation. Erciyes University recognizes that it has a responsibility to protect the
environment and should aim to do so while achieving its strategic goals,
including research and education. In order to prevent the increasing production
of plastic waste, it supports with policies and encourages with awareness
activities.
In this context, Erciyes University's policy to
reduce plastic waste is as follows:
Reusing office materials such as plastic files
etc. without wasting them,
Using materials such as paper clips or
staples instead of plastic files for
information notes and correspondence,
Avoiding single-use plastic products.
Instead, opting for long-lasting, sustainable
materials,
Increasing the number of drinking water
fountains on campus to reduce plastic
waste water bottles,
Using glass thermoses instead of plastic
products,
Preferring cloth bags instead of nylon bags,
Creating an awareness of responsibility by
integrating the concept of sustainability
with work processes in all units,
Encouraging the use of fewer cleaning
materials and in the quantities required and
applying this sensible approach in all areas
and resources where possible.
